Review the plant and animal cards students made in their earlier explorations (Lessons #1 and #2).Are all things in a habitat actually possible to see?.How do you think they are the same and different?.What are the habitats of our schoolyard?.plant and animal cards from previous lessons.observation recording sheets (see Worksheet 1: Habitats & Communities) or science notebooks.(Source: South Brunswick Public Schools, Science Curriculum: Eat or Be Eaten, NJ, 2008.) Human actions or their results are often the cause of these changes. The study of ecosystems is a branch of biology known as ecology.Ī change and/or interruption of an interrelationship in an ecosystem can cause large-scale changes in the ecosystem. In reality, the entire planet is one ecosystem. Every form of life is part of an ecosystem. No organism on Earth is an isolated individual. If the population’s needs are not met, it will move to a better habitat or die. The habitat must supply the needs of organisms, such as food, water, air, and space to grow. The community of living ( biotic) things interacts with the nonliving (abiotic) world around it to form the ecosystem. All of the plant and animal populations living in a habitat interact and form a community. A population is a group of living organisms of the same kind living in the same place at the same time. A habitat is the place where a population lives. Each habitat has a different mixture of species living there. Some habitats are near water, some are on top of mountains. Some habitats have lots of plants and animals, some do not. A habitat is a place where plants and animals normally live. Within each ecosystem, there are habitats which may also vary in size. Any group of living and nonliving things interacting with each other can be considered as an ecosystem. They can be as small as a puddle or as large as Earth itself. Biomes can be further subdivided into dynamic, interrelated systems of plants and animals, nonliving matter, and the energy of the system. In general, biomes are areas with a particular type of climate and similar plant and animal species. The biosphere is divided into regions known as biomes. Worksheets range from simple navigation of the ocean floor, underground water deposits, landforms, layers of Earth, hemispheres, and atmospheric layers. The biosphere is the area of Earth where living things exist. We end off by looking at the gaseous layers of the atmosphere and explore the current scientific community thinking of those layers. We will look at the concepts of hemispheres and the result of natural phenomena that is created as a result. We will look and the layers of the Earth and learn what takes place at each level. We will then take a dive into the planet itself. These worksheets will begin by helping students learn to name and identify many natural structures and help them understand their function and purpose. The only difference is that some geysers can shoot water at a pressure that is enough to tear your skin off. These can be thought of as Earth's sweat glands. Did you know that human made erosion is accelerating at an unprecedented pace? The Earth has a lot of cool things like geysers.

The Earth is made up of many layers that we are learning more about every week. We learn about the rock that we have lived on, as a species, for just over 6,000 years.

Being able to take data and understand weather and climate changes is essential to our own wellness. Our civilization is entirely reliant on natural resources that are available to us to perform essential activities. Understanding the natural phenomenon involved in these changes is why this is such an important branch of science. All human activities are dictated by what is happening in their environment.
